About CoverageGap

CoverageGap is a small, independent disability insurance calculator with one job: show you the actual dollar gap between what your employer's disability insurance would pay you and what you'd need to keep your household running.

Why this exists

Most people can tell you their car insurance deductible from memory, but have no idea what percentage of their salary their employer's group disability plan would actually replace — or that it's usually capped well below their full income. That gap is easy to miss because it only becomes visible after something has already gone wrong. This calculator exists to make it visible ahead of time, while there's still something you can do about it.

What this site is — and isn't

CoverageGap is an educational calculator, not an insurance agency. It doesn't sell policies, doesn't collect applications, and doesn't take commissions from any insurer. The math is shown openly on the calculator page so you can check it yourself or hand it to your own financial planner. If your result shows a gap, the next step is a conversation with a licensed insurance agent or a fee-only financial planner — not a purchase through this site.

Who's behind it

The CoverageGap Team built this calculator to make one specific blind spot visible: most employees have no idea what percentage of their salary their employer's disability plan actually replaces, or that it's usually capped well below their full income. This site is maintained independently, is not affiliated with any insurer, and is updated as the underlying figures change.
